Domino Printing Sciences (Domino), the trusted expert in advanced variable data printing solutions, is pleased to return to this year’s GS1 Global Forum to showcase its internal adoption of the new QR code powered by the GS1 standard.
The largest annual GS1 event, which takes place from 17th–20th February in Noordwijk, the Netherlands and virtually, brings together GS1 member organizations from across the globe to align on the GS1 global strategy, share ideas, best practices, and challenges, and demonstrate industry-leading solutions.
As an Innovation sponsor of the forum, Domino will focus on demonstrating its own internal adoption of GS1’s new QR code standard across its printer fluids and hardware spares The company’s decision to adopt the new standard stemmed from a desire to understand the processes and challenges involved to better support businesses seeking early adoption. At the GS1 Global Forum, Domino will demonstrate how the project has helped the company simplify internal operations and bring significant benefits to its global customer base.
Lee Metters, Global Business Development Director, Domino, says:
“Having worked closely with GS1 for more than 20 years, Domino realised early on the potential that QR codes powered by GS1 could bring to our customers around the world in terms of simplifying operations, improving traceability, and connecting and interacting with their end consumers.
“As such, over the last two years, we have worked to introduce the new standard on our printer fluids and spares so we can put our customers first. By challenging ourselves, we’ve made it an easier journey for our customers by identifying pitfalls to avoid, processes to adopt, people to involve across the business, and how ambitious to be when you start.”
Attendees of the GS1 Global Forum are invited to visit Domino’s Innovation stand to talk more about the process and challenges involved in implementing the new GS1 QR code standard and discuss how Domino can support businesses making the move to 2D codes with item-level uniqueness, offering true smart packaging with full traceability, and direct-to-individual-consumer brand interaction.”
In addition, Metters will present in two panel discussions focusing on the opportunities available to businesses across sectors.
In the first panel, “What’s Possible in 2025”, on Monday 17th February at 14:30–16:00 (UTC+1), delegates will learn about the current and emerging technologies for printing on-product 2D codes and the scanner updates required for successful retail pilots. Metters will discuss Domino’s complete range of printing solutions and demonstrate how products are optimised to support the adoption of variable data 2D codes including QR codes powered by GS1.
The second “Innovation” panel discussion on Monday 17th February at 16:30–17:45 (UTC+1), will see industry experts demonstrate how their companies are adopting the GS1 pillars of Identify, Capture, Share, and Use – and why they believe the migration to 2D codes will be revolutionary. Metters will discuss Domino’s internal GS1 QR code project, to focus on the GS1 resolver capabilities, and how this is helping to support end-customers through logistics, accuracy, and customer-focused information discovery and support enablement.
Steven Keddie, Senior Director of AIDC and overseer of the Global 2D Migration standard and technology initiatives, emphasises the pivotal role of solution providers such as Domino in enabling brands and retailers to harness the full potential of enriched data with 2D barcodes:
“Domino has been a terrific partner in not only raising awareness, but sharing expert guidance based on their 2D barcode implementations from around the world.”
