Domino Printing Sciences (Domino), a global leader in the development and manufacture of coding, marking, and digital printing technologies, is celebrating a successful evening at the regional Make UK Manufacturing Awards 2021, having taken home awards in two prestigious categories.

The Cambridge-based company was nominated for awards in four separate categories this year, including Health and Safety, Developing Future Talent, Business Growth and Strategy, and Innovation. The team walked away with the Health and Safety accolade, and the runner-up prize for Developing Future Talent.

The Make UK Manufacturing Awards celebrate excellence in British manufacturing in seven key categories. The regional awards for the Midlands and East were held in person this year, for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, during a formal ceremony at The Slate, University of Warwick.

Domino’s continued commitment to operational excellence, ensuring reliability, serviceability, and consistency of performance for customers has underpinned global sales growth for the last nine years, including during the pandemic. The awards serve as a further attestation of Domino’s manufacturing excellence not just within its market-leading products and solutions but within occupational health and safety, and in developing the talent and expertise required for continuous improvement and business growth.

Health and Safety

The Make UK Health and Safety award has been developed to recognise progress in improving the occupational health and safety culture of a workplace. Health and safety has always been a top priority at Domino and is a key cornerstone within the company’s strategic three-year plan. Domino was awarded this accolade for its work to improve operational health and safety via in-house development of two new workplace systems – a new QR-code-driven reporting tool which allows instant reporting of incidents or ‘areas for improvement’ as and when they are noted by employees, and an intuitive database for accurate assessment of hazardous substances.

Developing Future Talent

The Make UK award for Developing Future Talent recognises businesses that promote diversity, develop talent, and build skills among employees. Domino was awarded the runner up prize in this category for its commitments to building in-house expertise through continual learning and development, and ongoing projects to ‘make Domino a great place to work’. Domino is committed to fostering internal development through employee feedback and runs global Employee Net Promotor Score pulse surveys every four months to track employee satisfaction levels and help guide future actions. The company is actively engaged in employee-led projects to promote continuous improvement and development, improve diversity and inclusion, and grow global employee satisfaction levels.

Carl Haycock, UK Printer Operations Director at Domino says: “It was a real privilege to be able to be together in person once again with so many great manufacturing companies. I am delighted that Domino was able to get up on the stage twice and showcase our brand – this is a real credit to the work the whole team have done in the areas of both health and safety, and talent development.”

Charlotte Horobin, Region Director for Make UK in the Midlands and East of England, says: “These awards are a testament to the dynamic companies and individuals working within engineering and manufacturing. The sector remains at the heart of creating wealth in the East of England as we re-build our economy there will be a bright future for companies and individuals that make the most of their talent.”
